It is home to the giant anteater, the giant otter, the mighty harpy eagle, the giant arapaima fish, mighty rivers - Essequibo being 21 miles wide, one of the tallest sheer drop waterfall in the world - Kaieteur Falls. This tour was designed for people looking to experience the raw beauty of nature. The trip focuses on wildlife viewing and safaris and takes you on a journey into Guyana's deepest jungles, pristine rain forests and vast savannahs and mountains. Visit Guyana's known turtle and jaguar habitats and come away with a feeling of satisfaction....
Day 1: Arrival in Guyana:
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Ariantze Hotel , located in the center of the Capital Georgetown.
Day 2: City tour
This morning you will enjoy a tour of the city including St Georges Cathedral-the tallest freestanding wooden building in the world- picturesque City hall, the Victorian Law courts and many heritage sites, the national museum, botanical gardens and zoo. Return to hotel. Return to your hotel . B
Day 3: Kaieteur Falls
After breakfast take a flight to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls. The Kaieteur Falls are one of the world's natural wonders, where the waters of the Potara River flow over a sandstone conglomerate tableland into a deep gorge - a drop of 741 feet or 5 times the height of Niagara Falls. There are no other falls in the world with the magnitude of the sheer drop existing at Kaieteur. Afternoon return to hotel.BL
Day 4: Iwokrama
You will be transferred to Ogle Airstrip for a flight across the rainforest and savannah to Annai. Transfer to Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve. The Centre was established to promote the conservation, sustainable and equitable utilization of tropical rainforest in a manner that leads to lasting ecological, economic and social benefits. One the first day you will be free to explore the trails around the field station with an Iwokrama Ranger. After dinner go in search of caiman and other nocturnal wildlife. return to the Field Station. BLD
Day 5-6: Iwokrama and Satellite Camp
The Iwokrama forest is rapidly gaining in international reputation for its healthy jaguar population that seem not to be troubled by the appearance of curious humans. Today you will take a leisurely stroll up Turtle Mountain. Its summit is 935ft (approx. 360m). It takes an hour to walk up the mountain, but the effort is more than worth it for the breathtaking views over the forest canopy when you get there. The rest of the afternoon will be spent setting up camp and exploring the area near to the Turtle Mountain Satellite Camp. This is a well-known area for its jaguar population. BLD
Day 7-9: Savannah Experience
Transfer to the savannahs in search of big games. This trip will take about 4 hours driving. On arrival, you will observe other wildlife. You will also overnight in the camp.BLD
Day 10: Annai:
Return to Annai and take a flight to Georgetown or fly to Shell beach*.BLD
Day 11-13/ Shell Beach and Turtles
The turtles nesting on the beach are relatively few but are of remarkable diversity. These are the Leatherback - the world's largest, Green Hawksbill and Olive Ridley turtles. We travel through the land of the Amerindian tribes: the Caribs and Arawaks, then on to Shell Beach (which has been designated for Protected Area Status) . BLD
Day 14: Georgetown
Return to Georgetown and transfer to Hotel Ariantze. Overnight. BL
Day 15:
Return flight home:- transfer to airport for your return flight.
