Ecuadorian Volcano climbs

Ecuadorian Volcano climbs

The sight of snow-capped pinnacles piercing clear blue skies along the "Avenue of the Volcanoes", cannot help but tempt climbers of all levels. In the northern part of Ecuador, over 200 volcanic elevations are symmetrically aligned atop the Andes ranges, most of them are easily accessible within hours from Quito. Over ten peaks with altitudes in excess of 5000 meters are covered year round with glaciers.

Lhotse Expedition (8516 m)

Lhotse Expedition (8516 m)

Spring 2009 - Normal Route
Expedition Duration: 58 day(s)
Group Size: 1 - 12 people
Lhotse is best known for its proximity to Mount Everest and the fact that climbers ascending the standard route on that peak spend some time on its northwest face, see below. In fact Lhotse has one of the smallest topographic prominence values of any official eight-thousander, as it rises only 610 m above the South Col. Hence it is often seen as a minor eight-thousander.
However, Lhotse is a dramatic peak in its own right, due to its tremendous south face. This rises 3.2 km in only 2.25 km of horizontal distance, making it the steepest face of this size in the world. The south face has been the scene of many failed attempts, some notable fatalities, and very few ascent

Altar (Capa Urcu) Expedition (5404)

ALTAR (5,404 meters). The Altar is the most beautiful mountain of Ecuador. It is an old volcano, very eroded by glaciers. It appears like a crown of diamonds over the backbone of the Eastern cordillera, surrounded by unaltered vast wild zones of páramo, where deer, bears and condors can be sighted.

Sangay Expedition (5230 m)

12 Days
SANGAY (5,230 meters). This volcano is a world re-known attraction for mountain climbers. It is not only a joy to reach the crater, which is always erupting, it is also a fascinating experience to observe volcanic formations, vegetation, trees and páramos, and of course, the continuous explosions and lava surrounding the ice.

Mountaineering - Chimborazo Package

Mountaineering - Chimborazo Package

16 Day trip
This Package lasts 16 days and challenges both the intermediate and seasoned climber. Expediciones Andinas also offers top quality technical mountaineering equipment, full camping equipment, overnight facilities, cuisine, and transportation, and now offers our climbing friends the exclusive use of the Estrella del Chimborazo hut at the Chimborazo base camp where llamas and alpacas breed in a magnificent landscape.
Consists of an acclimatization ascent up Ruco Pichincha (4,794 m) near Quito, a conditioning climb up North Illiniza (5,116 m), a climb up the world's highest active volcano, Cotopaxi (6,005 m) and finally the ascent up the majestic Chimborazo (6,310 m).
While the Chimborazo Package follows a prearranged schedule, we can tailor climbs (you name it) for groups that would like to include other peaks or activities in their package. All climbs are guided either by Marco Cruz himself, or by a qualified and experienced guide working on the Expediciones Andinas team.
